Day 107 of 1827: Musical Apartments

I'm back in Ñuñoa... how on earth did that happen?

I got up super early this morning, packed up my stuff and hopped the Metro out to the Baquedano station.  As I walked up the street to the apartment building, it occurred to me that aside from Patio Bellavista, I have practically no knowledge of the Bellavista area in Santiago.  Definitely will have to fix that.

I walked up to the apartment building, met my host and promptly crashed on my new bed for a few hours.  I overshot my normal wakeup time by a couple of hours, but given the circumstances, I think it was justified (hiking with a heavy duffel while wearing a motorcycle jacket in the middle of summer is not for the weak!).

When I woke up, I started looking around the place, and I realized it wasn't going to work.

I knew going into this that my hosts had to deal with a number of major problems with the apartment before I got there, so I expected things to be in a bit of disarray, but this was very different.  The apartment felt... abandoned.  In fact, one of my hosts had even decided to leave the place entirely a couple of days earlier.

Fortunately, another location on Airbnb had pre-approved me, so I left my key on the counter and set out for my new home.  For the second time today.

On the way, I stopped by MosaiCafé for a little lunch.

In Chile, I've noticed that servers never offer to refill my water glass at restaurants.  When I want more water, I have to flag down my server and explicitly ask for it.  So this time, I figured I would bypass all that and just ask for a pitcher of water this time.

Unfortunately, I didn't know how to say "pitcher" in Spanish (my Spanish dictionary app told me to say lanzador, but that's for baseball).  After an unsuccessful game of charades, I gave up and settled for a single glass instead (at least she gave me a large glass!).

After an hour of traveling, I arrived at the new place, which appears to be a large house that has been converted into a hostel.

I had an intercambio meetup this evening to go to, but by the time I got settled and did some laundry, I was too exhausted to move.  I took a looooooooong nap until it was time to turn in for the night.

Hopefully tomorrow will be slightly less eventful; I had a ton of work I was hoping to get done today!

Sopa de Cerveza!
Sure; why not?
